The Different Forums

As you can see, CritterHaven is divided up into quite a few different little areas. Below you will find a brief explination of the purpose of each one and how to use it. The list is in the same order you will find the Forums on the Board.

The Library - Everywhere needs a place of learning and so we have The Library. Its not really incredibly intellectual but it is deffinately a must have. Here will be posted helpful links, reference materials - such as the Critter Creation Sheet - and approved advertisements for other forums or communities.

The Pub - This is the closest to what Havenites can have to an actual pub so have fun in here. Anything from jokes, to political discussions, to just casual chatter are allowed here. As with everywhere on the board though, if any of the material posted is not appropriate for our younger posters, please put something in the title of the topic to indicate that.

Any Questions? - If you have any serious questions regarding CritterHaven, or anything else that can be discussed publicly between yourself and the Boardies, please post them here. This is NOT a poll forum, those belong in either The Pub or the OOC Discussions forum depending on their nature.

Boardie Secret Hide-out - Pretty self explanitory I think. If you are interested in becoming one of the Boardies please PM Maira or Plat

OOC Discussions - Often times it is nice to discuss RP ideas with fellow players and so we've set aside this special spot to do so. Any discussions not RP related need to take place in The Pub.

Hatching Grounds - The main draw of any Bond-a-Holic is a good hatching. Because so many people like to hold hatchings and bondings it was decided it would be easier to set aside a forum dedicated to just that. The number of hatchings/bondings that can run at the same time is not limited, just the number per player. Each player may only have one active hatching (RP or pick-a-number) at a time. The number of hatchings/bondings per player per month is unlimited so long as one hatching is finished before the next begins. Also, we understand that some events will take mor etime that others and so there is no time limit on each hatching. Just remember: One active hatching per player at a time. *Critter give-away and request threads are also allowed in this forum but only one of each at a time.*

Original RP - Many bond-a-holics also love to create critters which often leads to worlds being created for those critters to live in, which in turn leads to characters being created to live in that world as well. This is the area where you may RP any of your original characters and original or bonded critters.

Pern RP - No this is not a weyr folks, sorry. It is a place for you to play in a rather free-form manner with your characters from Pern. The few rules that are left regarding RPing Pern most deffinately apply here so please follow them. All we ask is that things are kept as close to Anne's Pern as possible. Yes this means no four winged purple sports. Also keep in mind that whatever thread you do start can not consist purely of sport dragonriders either. There was only one in all of Anne's books spanning thousands of Turns so there would not likely be a population explosion of them. A few in moderation are understandable but not too many.

Writer's Corner - With so much creativity running rampant on CritterHaven the Boardies decided to add a special forum just for our members' original pieces of writing. Whether you write stories or poetry there's a place for you to post your writing. This section was set up to provide you guys with a place to gain feedback on your writing, if you want it, or to just share. Any type of stories and poetry are allowed so long as the general guidelines for the forum are followed.

Critter Creations - by Type - And now we get to the basis of the whole Board. CritterHaven was created as a place to store critter descriptions and allow people to enjoy them. In this section of the Board there are Forums for each type of creature (if one of your types has been missed please PM Maira or Plat and one of them will add it for you to post under). Each creator is allowed one thread under each type for example: 'Maira's Draconics' would contain all of Maira's flit types and dragon types. If more than one thread per creator is found in any given type forum, the threads will be merged and one will be deleted.

Critters and Worlds - by Creator - And because it's been known to happen that one creator says to another, "Browse through my creations and pick any that you want," this section was created. It can be quite frustrating jumping from type to type or scanning incredibly long lists to find a certain creator's different critters. To simplify things each creator is allowed one forum to themselves to post all of their critters in. Also allowed in these forums are the same creator's descriptions of their worlds that they have created and any pertinent information that goes with them. To recieve your own forum in this section, PM to Maira or Plat what you wish it to be titled. For example 'Maira's Sanctuary' or 'Demeter's Hidey Hole'. So long as your name is in the title just bout anything is acceptable. Also include what you would like the sub-title to say.

Maira, I wanted to add this since I have had some questions as to te nature of hatching/bondings. I explained it the best I could, but tis does so much better. People coming here just because a friend recommended it and not knowing anything about the critter aspect may appreciate this.

There are two basic types of hatching/bonding/impression threads...

1) The Pick a Number Bonding - The person holding the event will announce the bonding of a particular type of creature. The person holding the event will post a list of numbers, each number representing one or more creatures. The person holding the event will say to pick 1 or more numbers. Anyone who wishes to attach one of the creatures should reply to the note and request one of the listed numbers. Numbers are given out on a first ask, first given basis. If multiple people choose the same number due to confusion or just request any available number, the person holding the event will decide who gets which number. When all the numbers have been taken, the person holding the event will announce the results. The lucky winners then reply back to the note with the name of their new bondmate. It is wise to keep a note of which creatures you bond with, either in the Critter and Bonds List thread, in your signature (if there aren't too many), or on a personal website or other location.

2) The Role Play Bonding - The person holding the event will announce the bonding of a particular type of creature and state that the impressions will be role-played out. Anyone who wishes to bond one of the available creatures needs to reply to the note In Character. If you do not understand how to role play, you should avoid this type of hatching until you figure out how to play.

There are also other ways to receive new creatures...

1) Request a Creature Thread - Anyone who wishes to impress a particular type of creature can look through the Creature Encyclopedia thread and then post a request in the Request a Creature thread. Be sure to make your request specific; example - Lady Cin may I please request one of your Unicorn Dragons?

2) Give the Next Poster a Critter Thread - This is the fun one. Someone posts that they are leaving X creature(s)...the next poster can claim that creature(s), then they leave another creature(s) for the next poster. If you do not have any original creature creations you may leave one of Anne McCaffery's creatures (firelizard, wher, dragon, pern feline, pern canine, etc.) There is a note that lists all/most of AMC's creatures.

3) Totally Unexpected Bondings - Sometimes people will give you a creature for who knows what reason...birthdays, holidays, or even just because you are new and don't have many creatures.

Always remember to say please and thank you and never, ever, never give away creatures that were created by someone other than AMC without permission.

Now. For those of you who do not know what a bonding is, it's when a creature bonds to you or a character of yours. You may have RPd for who knows how long and never encountered this. It happens. When you bond to things, you add them to you bonds list and go out for more.

I hope this helps those that join and get in over their heads.
